Injection Guide
Learn about proper injection sites and techniques for subcutaneous and intramuscular injections. For dosing calculations, see our Dosing Calculator.

Subcutaneous Abdomen
Subcutaneous
Common for subcutaneous injections like semaglutide and peptides. Pinch a fold of skin around the navel area, avoiding a 2-inch radius around the navel.
Instructions:
- •Use a 5/16 to 5/8 inch, 27-30 gauge needle
- •Inject at a 45° angle
- •Rotate injection sites
Vastus Lateralis (Thigh)
Intramuscular
Ideal for self-administration. Located on the outer middle third of the thigh between the knee and hip.
Instructions:
- •Use a 1-1.5 inch, 22-25 gauge needle
- •Can accommodate up to 2 mL
- •Sit comfortably with leg relaxed
Deltoid (Upper Arm)
Intramuscular
Common for smaller volume IM injections (up to 1 mL). Locate the thick part of the deltoid muscle, about 2-3 finger widths below the acromion process.
Instructions:
- •Use a 1-inch, 23-25 gauge needle
- •Inject at a 90° angle
- •Aspirate before injecting
Dorsogluteal (Buttock)
Intramuscular
Upper outer quadrant of the buttock. Less preferred due to proximity to sciatic nerve but still commonly used.
Instructions:
- •Use a 1.5-inch, 21-23 gauge needle
- •Avoid the inner quadrants
- •Have someone assist if possible
